Translation: we must protect our thing or Cosa Nostra.  Only problem no one cases about your thing anymore. 

In the old days, Mediterranean cultures visited strange lands and encountered strange gods; however, they soon associated each to a Greek god because both worshipped the moon, for example. And it was all simple. Nowadays, we can no longer recognize strange gods or associate them with anything. There is only one god and we no longer understand each other.
